JOHN JAMES AUDUBON|THE BIRDS OF NORTH AMERICA

Each year I have the children in the class illustrate a bird always with incredibly delightful results! John James Audubon is the inspiration: an artist who challenged himself to illustrate every bird in North America by finding the birds in the woodlands of colonial America. His self-published book The Birds of North America is still used and sold today!

SPRING BIRDS

2014

The children were given a choice of a few spring birds: the Robin Red Breast, a swallow or a Purple Martin. Enjoy the results!

THE BARN OWL

Summer 2014
Part of the first summer class: "Things That Buzz or Bump in the Night" the barn owl with his heart shaped face was a great way to

learn about these nocturnal cuties!

THE SNOWY EGRET

Winter 2013

The snowy egret, visable in Staten Island marshlands, became this years holiday cards with their curvy necks and fly-away hair.

THE SNOWY OWL

2012

The snowy owl was the first owl we attempted as a class and the children from ages 3 to 11 mastered these birds using pastel chalk in the most charming of ways.
