Inspiring and encouraging creativity in children
PIET MONDRIAN
Piet (PEET) Mondrian was born in the Netherlands in 1872. His father and uncle were both artists and they introduced Piet to the world of art.
When Piet started attending art school he mostly painted
beautiful landscapes but later discovered abstract art or Cubism. His art began began to be
dominated by geometric shapes.. Mondrian eventually called this style neo-plasticism.
His ‘Composition with Red, Yellow and Blue’ was a painting composed of primary colored rectangles on a grid of black lines. Many of his paintings were similar in style and color.
We used rulers and our imaginations to create grid designs. Some of us tried an ear of corn in the Mondrian style.
